Remarks
C.W. Jefferys' notes about this picture from The Picture Gallery of Canadian History Volume 2
In pioneer days, especially in Nova Scotia, before churches were built, the Presbyterians of a neighbourhood gathered to partake of the Communion in some convenient place in the open air, often in a clearing in the woods. People came from great distances to these meetings, notice of which had been sent throughout the country. A description of these gatherings is given in Patterson's History of Pictou.
