“The seven stages of the store.” In The Canadian Courier, Vol. VI, No. 15, September
11, 1909, p. 22. [“store” refers to Robert Simpson Co.]
“Recently two clever young men of Toronto have conspired to write and to
picture the seven stages in the evolution of trade in Canada. The two makers
of the handsome booklet [The evolution of Canadian commerce] containing
the pictures and short stories are Mr. C.W. Jefferys, the well-known black
and white artist—and occasional painter of oils and water-colours—and
Mr. Sid H. Howard, advertising manager for the Robert Simpson Company…”

Found one of these booklets in my father’s things after his death. Love that the drawings are printed on brown craft paper.
